An Important Regency Ormolu and Cut-Glass 8-Light Chandelier
In the Manner of John Blades

This magnificent chandelier is among the finest surviving examples of English Regency lighting. One of them most important chandelier manufacturers of the early 19th century, the firm of John Blades is first recorded in the London Guide of 1783 at 5 Ludgate Hill. Blades remained at this address until his death in 1829, and worked closely with the architect and designer J. B. Papworth. He also had a thriving export trade to the Middle East and India and set up a branch in Calcutta.
